Debra Watson and the Smokin Aces

Debra Watson sings an eclectic mix of rockin' blues, jump blues, swing, jazz, and rockabilly with a heaping spoonful of Texas Sass. The Austin Smokin' Aces feature Phil Chidester on piano, Paul Haake on guitar, Dave Evertson, Russell Shores, or Larry Eisenberg on bass, Mike Kosacek or Chris Bennett on drums and her sister, Dayna Mosier on harmonies. She is also often joined by one of Austin's premier sax players, Paul Klemperer, Kaz Kazanoff, or Steve Bernstein.

Starting out with Esther Follies, Debra ventured down the...  comedy sketch road often singing parodies of well - known songs. After Esther Follies, she co-formed the group Better Than TV Players with Jess Doherty producing and playing over 100 shows at many beloved Austin venues including Liberty Lunch.

In the next stage of her career, Debra decided to pursue her passions of acting and singing in Los Angeles. In L.A. she met up with JJBadBoy Jones singing blues at Harvelles in Santa Monica as well as many other L.A. hot spots. Backyard Angeles was the first L.A. band she put together with guitarist, Michael Carter singing mostly blues and country. Later, after working as a special guest artist with several favorite L.A. Swing and Jump Blues Bands, she formed Debra Watson & The Smokin' Aces. She enjoyed success at the famous Derby, SwingFish, Joe's American Bar & Grill, Lunaria Supper Club, Rusty's Rhythmn Club and the outdoor Summer Concerts at the Sherman Oaks Galleria, Howard Hughes Promenade, and Pershing Square. While In Los Angeles she recorded two CDs, Come Dance With Me and That's Right! When In Los Angeles, Debra feels fortunate to play with Karen Hammack on piano, John “Groover McDuffie on guitar, Dave Victorino on sax, Jack LeCompte on drums, and Chris Connor on bass.

Debra recorded her 3rd CD, Boogie My Blues Away in 2014 in Austin with the Austin Smokin' Aces at The DoubleDog Recording Studios in Round Rock.

Graduating from UT with an Art Degree, Debra enjoyed the vibrant Austin Music scene and was hugely influenced by Delbert MClinton, Marcia Ball, Louann Barton, Robert Shaw, Asleep at the Wheel, Toni Price, Champ Hood, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. She also became immersed in the passionate vocals of Janis Joplin, Etta James, Bonnie Raitt, Peggy Lee, Ruth Brown, Patsy Cline, and Wanda Jackson. Her most recent influences include: James Intveld, Dale Watson, Tommy Castro and Rosie Flores with their driving rockabilly and retro swing roots.

Debra sings the heart of a ballad with rich, sensuous vocals, the groove of swing and jazz with soulful emotion, and lets her powerful Texas Sass loose with rockin' blues and rockabilly.
